Hamidur Rahman Azad protests nationwide police’s arrest drive against Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 7th January, 2017 protesting the ongoing widespread arrest of the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in Gaibandha and various other districts of the country.

“The government is attaining its ill political interest by conducting massive arrest against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in Gaibandha and various other districts of the country following the murder of Gaibandha-1 constituency’s ruling Awami League lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton.

It becomes crystal clear to the countrymen that Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir has no involvement with the murder of Monjurul Islam Liton. Even though the government is harassing the Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists by imprisoning him in order to confuse the nation. The government is detaining and torturing the Jamaat-Shibir men to create a camouflage in a bid to conceal the real killers.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop repression and torture against Jamaat-e-Islami and to release all the detained leaders and workers of these two organizations immediately.”
