Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 28 August 2021 expressing deep shock as at least 22 people drowned and around 50 others went missing as a boat capsized in LaishkaBeel in Brahmanbariaon Friday evening.

More than 100 people were on board when the boat left Champaknagar area for Brahmanbaria town around 5:30pm on Friday. As the boat reached Dewdona area, it collided with a small dinghy and the boatman lost its control. The boat was then hit by two sand-carrying vessels coming from the opposite direction and capsized. So far, 22 dead bodies including some bodies of women and children had been rescued from the spot. I am extending deep shock for all the deceased and extending sympathies to their mournful families. May Allah accept all of them as martyrs.

I am also urging the concerned authorities to find out the real reasons behind the tragic capsize incident and also to pay due compensation to victim families. Besides, effective initiatives should be taken from their part to rescue the missing passengers.
