Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Mia Golam Porwar today, Tuesday, 20 January issued a statement strongly condemning and protesting the incident in which RAB officers were killed and injured by terrorist gunfire while conducting an operation in Sitakunda, Chattogram, on Monday afternoon, 19 January.

In the statement, Mia Golam Porwar said, “The nation is deeply concerned about the deterioration of the law and order situation and the role of the administration in controlling terrorist activities. The situation has become more alarming following the incident in which one RAB officer was killed and three other RAB members were injured by terrorist gunfire during an operation in Sitakunda, Chattogram.

Under these circumstances, I call upon the law enforcement agencies to take strict measures to eliminate terrorists.”

He further said, “An operation was carried out in the Jangal Salimpur area of Sitakunda to arrest ‘armed terrorists’. During the operation, miscreants launched a sudden attack on the RAB members.”

Mia Golam Porwar prayed to Allah seeking the forgiveness of the soul of the deceased officer, DAD Md. Motaleb, who was killed by terrorist gunfire, and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members. He also prayed to Almighty Allah for the speedy recovery of the injured.

He added that this incident has clearly shown that, ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, terrorists are attempting to disrupt the environment for a free and fair election and create fear among the public, and this is why; they have attacked RAB members. Therefore, he said, the administration must adopt a zero-tolerance policy, recover illegal arms before the election, conduct a proper investigation into this incident, arrest the identified terrorists, and bring those involved in the killing to justice. At the same time, he urged the concerned authorities to take necessary measures to ensure that such terrorist activities do not recur in the future.
