In a statement issued on 16 January, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair said: “Today, at a press conference organized by Islami Andolan Bangladesh, the organization’s Joint Secretary General and Spokesperson, Gazi Ataur Rahman made a statement citing a responsible female leader of an organization from the Christian community. That statement is not correct.
On our part, the matter was clarified immediately during the press briefing itself.
Gazi Ataur Rahman’s comment that ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has deviated from the law of Allah and Islamic ideals’ is also incorrect. We believe that he made such a comment with the intention of creating confusion among the public. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is an Islamic organization run in the light of the ideals of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him).
Regarding another allegation made by Mr. Gazi Ataur Rahman, Advocate Zubair said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has always maintained political decorum and conducts itself with all political parties on the basis of mutual respect and courtesy. We do not engage in behavior that is contrary to political etiquette with anyone.
I call upon Gazi Ataur Rahman to refrain from making statements that create confusion among the public.”
