Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement today, 10 January
Calling for legal action against those who are creating an artificial crisis despite having sufficient stock of LPG.
In the statement, he said that although there is currently sufficient stock of LPG gas in the country, a vested quarter is deliberately creating an artificial crisis and subjecting the general public to suffering. Such inhuman and anti-public-interest activities are by no means acceptable.
He further said that by creating an artificial crisis in LPG, attempts are being made to increase prices and destabilize the market, which is having a severely negative impact on the country’s economy and on the lives of ordinary people.
The lower- and middle-income classes are being affected the most.
He said, “I urge the relevant authorities of the government to immediately restore discipline in the LPG market, and I demand strict legal action by identifying those involved in creating the artificial crisis, hoarding, and dishonest business practices.”
Mia Golam Porwar further said that the government must play a more responsible role in protecting the rightful interests of the people.
Unless market monitoring is strengthened and exemplary punishment against the guilty is ensured, such crises will keep recurring.
Calling upon people from all walks of life of the country to remain vigilant, he said that united resistance must be built against any activity that goes against public interest.
