Jamaat men including two elected Upazila chairmen arrested in Rajshahi; Professor Mujib condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 9th July, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 11 leaders and activists of Rajshahi district Jamaat including Rajshahi East organizational district Secretary and Charghat Upazila’s Vice-Chairman Nazmul Hoque, Bagha Upazila Jamaat Ameer and Bagha Upazila’s elected Chairman Maulana Zinnat Ali, Bagha municipality unit Jamaat Ameer Saiful Islam, Comilla North organizational district’s Titas Upazila Jamaat Ameer Engineer Shamim Shorkar Biggo, Bagha Upazila Jamaat’s working committee member Md. Sekandar Ali and Moazzem Hossen.

“Police has unlawfully arrested 11 leaders and activists of Rajshahi district Jamaat including Rajshahi East organizational district Secretary and Charghat Upazila’s Vice-Chairman Nazmul Hoque. They are completely innocent.

The government is continuously arresting the leaders and activists of different levels of Jamaat-e-Islami as a part of their conspiracy to destroy the leadership of the party. They have become the victim of government’s political vengeance. Even the elected representatives are not spared from such repression of the government. The government is detaining the opposition men particularly the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to facilitate a farcical voter less election. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Rajshahi East organizational district Secretary and Charghat Upazila’s Vice-Chairman Nazmul Hoque and Bagha Upazila Jamaat Ameer and Bagha Upazila’s elected Chairman Maulana Zinnat Ali immediately.”
