16 killed in Rangpur road accident; Secretary General condoles

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 24th June, 2017 expressing deep condolence as at least 16 people were killed and eight critically injured after a truck carrying Eid holidaymakers skidded off a road in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur early today.

“I am deeply shocked as immediate before the holy and festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, at least 16 people were killed and eight critically injured after a truck carrying Eid holidaymakers skidded off a road in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur early today.

The ministers are often claiming that there is no traffic jam on the highway this time. The highway is in better position, they added. But in reality, the picture is completely reverse. Massive traffic jams are being seen in all the highways. The homebound peoples are widely suffering due to such grid locking traffic jam. I am urging the ministers to take some effective steps to ease the sufferings of the homebound peoples immediately.

I am asking the concerned authorities to provide due compensation to the families of the deceased and to ensure medical treatment for the injured peoples.

I am praying for the salvation of those peoples who have been killed in this road accident and extending deep sympathy to the victim families. I am also praying for the quick recovery of the injured.
