On 26 October, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement appealing to the people of the country to ensure the full success of the previously announced protest rallies and processions in all district headquarters tomorrow, 27 October (Monday).
In the statement, he said that, with the aim of transforming Bangladesh into a just and accountable democratic state, the five-point public demands of the eight political parties participating in the movement were presented before the nation at a press conference held at the National Press Club on last 19 October, and the fourth phase of the three-day program was announced.
The demands are:
1. To issue the necessary constitutional orders to implement the July National Charter and hold a referendum on these orders by November.
2. To introduce the PR (Proportional Representation) system in both houses of the upcoming national elections.
3. Ensure a level playing field for all to achieve free, fair, and acceptable elections.
4. Make visible the justice for all atrocities, mass killings, and corruption of the fascist government.
5. Ban the activities of the allies of fascist Awami League, including the Jatiya Party, and the 14-party alliance.
To achieve these announced five-point public demands, protest rallies and processions will be held in all district headquarters across the country tomorrow, 27 October (Monday), Insha’Allah.
On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I earnestly appeal to the people of the country to participate spontaneously in this program and ensure its full success.
