Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar said that the July Charter must be implemented, a referendum should be held in November, and the national election conducted in February. He stated that ever since independence, those who have governed the country have used the Hindu community merely for their own benefit. “This time, to ensure the progress and infrastructural development of the Hindu community, what is needed is an Islamic government,” he said.
He further remarked, “Those who are threatening the Hindu community after seeing the rising tide of the Daripalla symbol will not be able to frighten Hindus this time. If anyone obstructs them, the people will rise in resistance. Now the slogan of the Hindus is: ‘We have seen all symbols; now it’s time for Daripalla.’”
He made these remarks on Friday morning (October 31) while addressing as chief guest the Hindu Conference organized by the Hindu Committee of Dumuria Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami at Dumuria Upazila Freedom Square in Khulna district.
The event was presided over by Babu Krishna Nandi, President of the Upazila Hindu Committee, and hosted by its Secretary, Principal Deb Prasad Mandal. Among others who spoke were: former Vice-President of Khulna District Bar Association and Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Abul Khair; President of Shovna Union Jamaat-e-Islami Md. Moslem Uddin; Ghoshsai Sadhu Pramath Gain of Sharafpur Universal Puja Temple; Upazila Hindu Committee Vice-President Dr. Haridas Mandal; Kanailal Karmakar; Lecturer Prashanta Kumar Mandal; Treasurer Gautam Kumar Mandal; Principal Subhash Sardar of Pallishree College; Sujit Kumar Sarkar, Vice-President of Magurkhali Union; Advocate Aposh Singh, Vice-President of Dumuria Universal Puja Temple; Gobinda Kundu, President of Dhamalia Union; Biplob Sarkar, President of Rudaghia Union; Kartik Chandra Sarkar, President of Raghunathpur Union; Narayan Raha, President of Kharnia Union; Bishwanath Das, President of Magurghona Union; Tanmoy Mandal, President of Sahas Union; Niranjan Roy, Pre
In his speech, the chief guest Mia Golam Porwar reiterated that for the overall development of the Hindu community and for infrastructural progress in Dumuria, Phultala, and across the nation, an Islamic government is now essential. He emphasized again that those who threaten the Hindu community after seeing the rising popularity of the Daripalla symbol will not succeed in instilling fear; any obstruction against the Hindus will be met with public resistance.
He added that for 54 years, those who ruled the country exploited the Hindu community through terrorism, land grabbing, and extortion. “If Jamaat-e-Islami gets the opportunity to govern, we will eliminate terrorists, extortionists, and occupiers from the country. The people want change, and we are determined to bring that change,” he asserted.
Mia Golam Porwar further said, “We have seen the rule of the Jatiya Party, the rule of BNP, and the rule of Awami League. Only one party remains—Jamaat-e-Islami, whose symbol is Daripalla.”
Referring to the 2024 movement, he mentioned that about 1,500 people were martyred and 40,000 injured. “Students from Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Jahangirnagar University, and all others have sent a message of change—and the people will echo that message in the coming days,” he said.
In his presidential address, Krishna Nandi said, “Let the first vote of the new generation be for the balance.” He called upon everyone to vote for the balance symbol in the upcoming election and elect Mia Golam Porwar with the highest number of votes.
Dr. Sudipta Kumar Sundar Mandal, President of the Matua Sangha, said, “We no longer wish to be identified as a ‘minority.’ We are all Bangladeshis. Since independence, no government has addressed the demands of Hindus. This time it will be proven that being Hindu does not mean belonging to any particular party.”
Meanwhile, colorful processions from 14 unions of Dumuria upazila gathered around the Hindu Conference. Men, women, and youth joined the event playing musical instruments. After the assembly, a massive rally paraded through various roads of Dumuria town, led by Babu Krishna Nandi, President of the Upazila Hindu Committee.
