Australian High Commissioner holds courtesy meeting with Jamaat Ameer

Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Honorable Ms. Susan Ryle, paid a courtesy visit to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The courtesy meeting and breakfast were held today, 9th October (Thursday), at 9:00 AM at the Jamaat Ameer’s office in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Four representatives of the High Commission attended the meeting, including Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Clinton Pobbke and Political First Secretary Ms. Anna Peterson.

From Jamaat’s side, its Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, and Central Majlis-e-Shura member Maulana Yasin Arafat were present on the occasion.

The meeting was held in a highly positive and cordial atmosphere. At the beginning of the discussion, the Honorable High Commissioner inquired about the health condition of Jamaat Ameer and wished him a speedy and full recovery.

During the meeting, discussions took place on various issues, including Bangladesh’s upcoming parliamentary elections under the PR system and the role of Jamaat-e-Islami in strengthening democracy. Additionally, Jamaat’s stance on women’s rights, women’s participation in social, economic, and administrative spheres, and their ability to work independently was highlighted.

The meeting also featured detailed discussions on Bangladesh’s economic potential, particularly in the energy and ready-made garments sectors. During the discussions, the Australian High Commissioner appreciated Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in building a corruption-free society.

Future avenues to accelerate matters of mutual interest were also discussed. Possible cooperation by the Australian government in Bangladesh’s skill development programs, as an important development partner, was also explored.
