Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, said that work must be carried out in the upcoming elections with the aim of establishing a state free from fascism, extortion, and corruption. He further stated that Jamaat-e-Islami is an election-oriented party. “We are always prepared for elections; however, a level playing field must be ensured for fair competition,” he emphasized. He added that in previous elections, ordinary people of this country, including nearly 40 million youths of Bangladesh, were deprived of their voting rights. A proper environment for voting must be guaranteed.
He further remarked that those who wish to trade nominations are the only ones who do not understand the proportional representation (PR) system. He called upon leaders, activists at all levels, and the people of the country to ensure the victory of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate in the upcoming national parliamentary elections, thereby establishing a welfare state free of fascism, terrorism, corruption, and extortion. He mentioned that apart from a few parties, 26 political parties have expressed their opinion in favor of holding elections under the PR system in the consensus commission.
