Lawyers meet ATM Azharul Islam in Kashimpur jail; gets instruction for filing the review plea

Lawyers of detained Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam met him today. Lawyers of Bangladesh Supreme Court Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Advocate Kamal Uddin and Advocate Abdur Razzaq went to the Kashimpur central jail this morning to meet their clients. They hold a meeting to discuss the probable process and other relevant issues for filing a review plea against the complete verdict of the Appellate Division, published on last 15 March. ATM Azhar listened to the points of the lawyers and instructed them to file a review plea within the timeframe.

During the meet, ATM Azhar said, whatever the result and consequences of the review plea is, it is not the final one. The decision of the day of the judgment will be the final one. On that day, everybody has to be accountable for their activities of this world. Almighty Allah is the supreme judge. I am fully ready to accept martyrdom.

ATM Azhar expresses concern over the outbreak of coronavirus worldwide. Referring to the verse of the Quran, ATM Azhar said, whatever comes as calamities and punishment from Allah, are the outcome of people’s deeds on this earth.

He urged everybody not to be pessimistic and also to seek refuge and protection from Almighty Allah through the process of repentance. He further said, though I am detained, I am praying to Allah for the protection of my fellow countrymen.

Lawyers claimed, Mr. Azhar is mentally and physically fit. He extended his salam to the countrymen and requested the people to offer prayer for him.
