11 dead as train hits microbus at rail crossing in Chattogram; Jamaat Ameer condoles

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 29th July 2022 expressing deep shock at the tragic accident as at least 11 tourists died and 7 others have been critically injured while a train hit a microbus at a rail crossing in Mirshorai of Chattogram today.

The incident occurred around 1:45 pm in the Borotakiya area of Mirsharai. The microbus tried to cross the rail crossing forcefully, ignoring the gateman's request, when the train hit the vehicle, leaving 11 people dead on the spot. The deceased were on their way back after visiting Khaiyachhara waterfall when the Chattogram-bound Probhati Express train hit their microbus and dragged it for at least one kilometer.

The accident is very painful and tragic. I became really shocked and saddened at the death of these juvenile youths. I am praying to Allah to accept all the deceased as martyrs. May Allah help the victim’s families and their relatives to hold patience. I am also praying for the quickest recovery of the injured.

Although, it has been reported that the tragic accident took place as there was a signal in the level crossing over the road. However, such negligence cannot be accepted. The government has to take the liability for the death of 11 youths so painfully.

I am urging the concerned authorities to take effective measures to ensure the medical treatment of the injured and also to pay due compensation to the victim families.
