Gaibandha-1 constituency\'s MP murder: Hamidur Rahman Azad urges to stop false and intentional campaign for the sake of fair investigation

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 4th January, 2017 urging the concerned sections to be refrained from making false and intentional remarks implicating Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir for the sake of fair and impartial investigation into the murder of Gaibandha-1 constituency's ruling party lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton.

"Some ruling party leaders and supporters and some pro-government media are carrying out false and fictitious campaign against Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in order to save the murderers of Gaibandha-1 constituency's ruling party lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton.

Immediate after the brutal murder of Gaibandha-1 constituency's Awami League lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton, some ruling party leaders and supporters and some pro-government media are carrying out false and fictitious campaign against Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in a bid to create some unnecessary confusion. They are making this false campaign to hamper the ongoing investigation with some negative assumption.

A report of a national daily recently revealed that the high officials of the law enforcement agencies already became compelled to admit that, from the high ups to the local level organizational leaders, the way they are blaming Jamaat-e-Islami only for this murder it becomes tough for them to investigate properly. While another daily published a report quoting the comment of the murdered lawmaker's sister saying that blame game has started against Jamaat-e-Islami just to save the killers. They also voiced to monitor and assess the role of the familiar personnel to the victim lawmaker and his own party men. Besides, wife of the murdered lawmaker also disclosed that, on that day of occurrence, two unidentified persons had entered into their house with the consent of the lawmaker. The aforesaid comments proved that the statements of the ruling party leaders are ridiculous, irrelevant and contradictory. The remarks of the victim family members also substantiated that Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir was no way involved with this murder. However, blame game and ill campaign has been started against these organizations in order to take the investigation towards a wrong direction.

The law enforcers are arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir indiscriminately. I am urging the authorities concerned to stop harassment and ongoing arrest drive against the Jamaat-Shibir men.

In addition, I am calling upon the concerned sections to be refrained from making false and intentional remarks implicating Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir for the sake of fair and impartial investigation into the murder of Gaibandha-1 constituency's ruling party lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton.
