-Mia Golam Porwar

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Mia Golam Porwar today, 27 November, issued a statement strongly condemning and protesting the heinous incidents of repeated terrorist attacks, gunfire, vandalism of vehicles and motorcycles, and arson by supporters of BNP candidate Habibur Rahman Habib during the election campaign of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami parliamentary candidate, central Majlis-e-Shura member, and Pabna district Ameer Professor Abu Taleb Mondal in Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atghoria) constituency.

In the statement, he said: “This afternoon, 27 November, in the Char Gorgori Jagir Mor area of Sahapur Union in Ishwardi Upazila, more than fifty leaders and activists, including Professor Abu Taleb Mondal, were injured in this barbaric attack. His vehicle was vandalized, and over a hundred motorcycles were damaged and set on firean open attempt to sabotage a free, peaceful, and participatory electoral environment.

He further stated that the armed attack today, following the previous day’s attack by local BNP thugs on Jamaat workers in the same area, proves that supporters of the rival candidate are attempting to create a violent atmosphere to push the election toward chaos. Attacking a competing candidate with firearms and improvised weapons in the electoral field of a democratic country is completely unacceptable.

He said, “I strongly condemn and protest this attack and urge the authorities to immediately arrest the perpetrators and ensure exemplary punishment. At the same time, I pray to Allah for the speedy recovery of all injured leaders and activists and instruct district and local leadership to take necessary measures to support them.”

He added, “Such barbaric attacks on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidates and activists constitute a violation of democratic rights and a direct threat to a peaceful electoral environment. We are determined to continue our peaceful campaign activities, and our firm stance against any form of terrorist attack will remain unchanged, Insha Allah.”
