Jamaat Ameer expresses deep shock and sorrow over the casualties caused by the devastating earthquake in Dhaka and other parts of the country

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, issued a statement today, 21 November expressing profound shock and sorrow over the casualties caused by the devastating earthquake in the capital Dhaka and different parts of the country.

In his statement, he said, “At 10:38 a.m. today, 21 November, a powerful earthquake was felt in the capital Dhaka and various regions of the country. So far, at least six people, including two children in Dhaka and Narsingdi, have been killed in this earthquake. Additionally, confirmed reports indicate that around three hundred people, including students of Dhaka University, factory workers in Gazipur, and residents in Narsingdi—the epicenter of the earthquake—have been injured. I express my deepest shock and sorrow over this tragic loss of life and injuries.”

He further said, “I pray seeking forgiveness for the departed souls and express my heartfelt condolences to the injured and to the families of the deceased. May Allah Almighty grant patience and strength to the families of the dead and wounded.”

He added, “I urge the concerned authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and the injured. I also pray for the swift recovery of the wounded victims.”

He continued, “Strict monitoring must be ensured to verify whether high-rise buildings are being constructed in accordance with the building code. It is also the government’s responsibility to raise public awareness to reduce earthquake-related damage. I hope that the people will be able to overcome this disastrous situation with patience and courage, InshaAllah.”
