26 Bangladeshis shot dead in Libya; Jamaat Ameer condoles

Urges government to take legal actions against human traffickers

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on May 30, 2020 protesting and condemning the killings of 26 Bangladeshi citizens in Libya.

The family of a Libyan human trafficker have shot 26 Bangladeshis to dead. They left Bangladesh 5 months back for Italy. In the meantime, they were held hostage by the abductors for twice. Finally, the kidnappers killed these 26 Bangladeshis and left another 11 injured. 3 off them are critically injured. I am condemning the incident sincerely.

I am praying for those people who have been killed in this incident and extending deep sympathy to their mournful families. I am urging the concerned authorities to provide due compensation to the victim families and also to take due measures for the treatment of the injured.

We are observing that, the youths in quest of better life and livelihood are being deceived often, particularly while living home for abroad. Earlier, a significant number of Bangladeshi people also got killed in Libya. But the government failed to take actions against the human traffickers. We think, these Bangladeshi victims should be brought back immediately. I am further calling upon the authorities concerned to take punitive legal measures against the human traffickers.”
