Maulana Abdul Halim strongly condemns the irresponsible, malicious, and politically-motivated remarks of Moazzem Hossain Alal

-Maulana Abdul Halim

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Abdul Halim has strongly condemned and protested the misleading and politically motivated remarks made by BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Moazzem Hossain Alal. He issued a statement on November 1, 2025.

In the statement, he said: “Today, November 1, at a program held at the National Press Club, BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Moazzem Hossain Alal made a remark saying, ‘Jamaat-e-Islami should also be banned for the genocide, rape, and atrocities committed in 1971.’ This statement is divisive, irresponsible, and stems from malicious political motives. It clearly reflects that he is maligning Jamaat-e-Islami merely to please certain quarters. His tone echoes that of authoritarian and Awami fascist elements. I strongly condemn and protest his remarks.”

Maulana Abdul Halim further said: “The allegations against Jamaat-e-Islami of ‘crimes against humanity’ or ‘involvement in the killings of 1971’ are completely baseless and have been raised from time to time out of political malice. Since independence, propaganda of this sort has been carried out targeting Jamaat with the intention of eliminating political opposition. However, the nation is now fully aware of these falsehoods.”

He added: “Such divisive remarks from Alal, who holds a responsible position as an advisor to the BNP Chairperson, go against the spirit of national unity. I urge him and his party to reflect on the past roles of many of their own leaders before making such comments. At a time when the nation needs consensus and mutual tolerance to overcome the current political crisis, his provocative remarks are contrary to political decency and to the aspirations of the student and people’s uprising of July.”

Maulana Abdul Halim said: “Jamaat-e-Islami is a registered political party whose principles and ideals are rooted in Islamic values, justice, and the welfare of the people. The party has always played a positive role in protecting the country’s sovereignty, independence, and democracy. Therefore, the demand to ban Jamaat is utterly unreasonable, undemocratic, and motivated by hatred.”

“I call upon Mr. Moazzem Hossain Alal to refrain in the future from making statements that are divisive, malicious, misleading, or politically motivated, and that hinder national unity.”
