Ideal school and college imposes ban on wearing scarf and Panjabi; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 16 January 2020 protesting and condemning the decision of banning scarf for the female students and Panjabi for the teachers in capital’s Motijheel Ideal School and College.

“I am vehemently condemning the recent move as the concerned authority has imposed a ban on wearing scarf for the female students and Panjabi for the teachers in capital’s Motijheel Ideal School and College.

Wearing veil or scarf is mandatory for the Muslim women. It is the fundamental principal of Islam which is essential to protect and preserve the dignity and honor of the women communities. For years, Motijheel Ideal School and College has been upholding this principle and complying it sincerely. But the recent managing committee of the school has imposed a ban on putting such religious attires. With such initiative, they have taken their position against the dress codes and basic principle of Islam.

Bangladesh is a Muslim majority country. Constitutionally, Islam is our state religion. As such, the dress codes of the educational institutions must be maintained preserving such spirit. But the recent decision of Motijheel Ideal School and College Management committee has hurt the religious sentiment of the people.

Under the circumstances, I am urging the concerned authority to lift the ban on wearing scarf and Panjabi in the premise of the Motijheel Ideal School and College immediately.
