Tasnim Alam criticizes Prothom Alo’s series intentional and politically motivated report against Jamaat-e-Islami
Central Publicity Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Professor Md. Tasnim Alam has issued the following statement on 2 December 2019 protesting and gainsaying the report of Bengali daily ‘Prothom Alo, titled “জামায়াতের সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল পদ নিয়ে টানাপোড়েন” (Tensed situation within Jamaat-e-Islami centering the post of the Secretary General).
“Reporter Salim Zahid of daily Prothom Alo has prepared a news in their online version titled “জামায়াতের সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল পদ নিয়ে টানাপোড়েন” -which has drawn our attention. We are vehemently protesting and condemning such confusing and untrue report.
Our clear assertion about this report is this particular report of daily Prothom Alo is politically motivated and confusing. Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. Despite all sorts of turbulence, struggles and repression of last couple of years, Jamaat-e-Islami has become successful to maintain its organizational legacy and democratic procedures. Jamaat-e-Islami is committed to uphold democratic practices within the party and simultaneously in the country.
Jamaat’s Ameer electoral process has been completed as per the party’s constitution. Now, the newly elected Ameer will appoint next secretary general according to the constitutional obligations. So, there is no room for creating any tension and confusion within the party in this regard. Prothom Alo is making a new campaign, accusing the newly elected Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman of creating his own influence within the party structure. Such allegations are far away from truth. Earlier, this daily published several confusing reports centering the Ameer election which were entirely baseless.
Whatever is said about the formation of alternative party of Jamaat-e-Islami is not true as well. Jamaat’s newly elected Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is not interested to remain with 20 party alliances- such comment is also concocted and manipulated. The reported allegation of clash between Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and party’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan is also baseless. There is no faction within Jamaat-e-Islami. These reports are nothing but continuous malign effort to demean the Jamaat leadership, which contradicts the ethics and principles of honest and authentic journalisms.
I hope that the concerned reporter and the authority of Daily Prothom Alo would be refrained from publishing such ill-intentional and politically motivated reports implicating Jamaat-e-Islami and would publish this rejoinder properly to lessen the mass confusion.
