Police arrests Jamaat leaders and activists from several districts; Rafiqul Islam Khan demands immediate release

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 2nd November 2019 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrests of two Jamaat and 6 Chhatrashibir activists from Rangpur city, 2 from Chittagong city and one activist of Dhaka south district’s organizational unit.

I am severely protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrests of two Jamaat and 6 Chhatrashibir activists from Rangpur city, 2 from Chittagong city and one activist of Dhaka south district’s organizational unit.

By such indiscriminate arrests, the incumbent authoritarian government has exposed its undemocratic face once again. The government is conducting continuous oppression and torture against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. But they are not allowing any opposition party to hold any peaceful protest demonstration at all. The entire nation has turned into a massive prison cell due to misrule and the arrest drives of the government. The government is plotting conspiracies to linger its one-party rule by dint of its force and relentless crackdown against the opposition quarters. I am urging my fellow countrymen to launch protest against such conspiracies of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop crackdown and oppression and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir immediately.”
