Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7 October 2019 protesting and condemning the brutal murder of Abrar Fahad, a meritorious student of Electrical & Electronics Engineering department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, which has been committed by the cadres of ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League.

“Abrar Fahad, a second-year student at electrical and electronic engineering department of BUET was beaten to death brutally by the cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League. We have no word to condemn the brutality.

Bangladesh Chhatra League has turned into a sanctuary of extortionist, tender terrorists and corrupts people. The crimes of the Chhatra League leaders and activists have exceeded all the limits. All the educational institutions of the country are being seized and barbarously dominated by the Chhatra League goons. The cadres of Chhatra League cadres have murdered this brilliant student as he had posted a facebook status criticizing the incumbent government. This incident proved that lives and properties of the students are no more secured. Earlier, the students and juveniles also became the victim of Chhatra League men’s attack when they had carried out movement in line with the demand of road safety. Chhatra League goons also attacked the agitating students who took to the street seeking reform in the quota system. Chhatra League’s numerous crimes including their murder, rape, terrorism, extortion have been increasing in an unprecedented way.  

The President and Secretary of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League became expelled in recent times due to their involvement with limitless extortion, tender terrorism and corruption. However, this latest brutality of this organization proved that their notorious character remains the same. Their so-called expulsion and punishment are nothing but a show off. The real truth is, Chhatra League hooligans have created a fearful and anarchic situation in all the academic institutions across the country as they are being backed and indulged by the party high ups.   

I am urging the concerned authorities to arrest all the terrorists of Chhatra League who were involved with the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad. I am calling upon the concerned authorities to ensure exemplary punishment of the killers.
