Mirpur slum fire: 3,000 families affected; Jamaat Ameer condoles

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 18 August, 2019 expressing deep shock as several thousand families have been affected in an incident of massive fire which took place on last 16th August at the Jhilpar slum in Mirpur 7 of Dhaka.

I am expressing deep shock and condolence as several thousand families have been affected in an incident of massive fire which took place on last 16th August at the Jhilpar slum in Mirpur 7 of Dhaka. Thousands of families have become totally bankrupt and penniless in this incident. They have no place to secure minimum shelter. They have no option to survive as well. So, they must be provided money and other assistances on emergency basis.

We have been observing for years that slums of capital Dhaka are being affected by blaze and other fire incidents. Significant number of people are at a loss as the consequence of these incidents. But the government took no effective steps to stop these painful accidents. I am calling upon the concerned authorities to probe into the Mirpur slum fire incident to find out the real reasons and to undertake due measures accordingly to stop the recurrence of such massive accidents in future.

Finally, I am urging the authorities concerned to take appropriate initiatives to allocate sufficient assistances and compensations and also to commence actions to compensate the victims.
