Ex-lawmaker Abdul Aziz receives death penalty; Acting Ameer condemns government’s conspiracy against him

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22nd November, 2017 expressing deep concern as the tribunal awarded ex-lawmaker and Jamaat leader Maulana Abdul Aziz with death penalty in connection with case of crimes against humanity filed by the government, implicating him with some fictitious allegations.

“Maulana Abdul Aziz was not involved with any crimes against humanity. He has become the worst victim of government’s political vengeance.

The countrymen are well informed that Maulana Abdul Aziz is a popular Islamic figure. He has contested in National Election in 2001 as a candidate of the 4 party alliances and won the election grabbing huge number of votes. He has discharged the duty as a parliamentarian till 2006 very successfully. If he were involved with any such crimes, he could never be elected. His victory in that national election proves his innocence.

The government has taken initiative to punish him by lodging a false and concocted case against him as they failed to tackle him politically. I am vehemently protesting and condemning such ill conspiracies of the government.”
