Acting Secretary General calls to observe declared general strike and prayer program peacefully

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 11th October, 2017 urging all wings, units and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the assistance of the countrymen in order to observe nationwide dawn to dusk strike on Thursday protesting against the unjust arrest and 10 days of police remand against top Jamaat leaders including Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and simultaneously making a call to offer special prayer seeking the blessings of Almighty Allah for their immediate release on 13th October, Friday.

“I am protesting the unjustifiable arrest of Netrokona Sadar Upazila unit Jamaat Ameer Master Nazrul Islam, Shirajganj municipality Ameer Professor Shahidul Islam along 3 party activists and 4 others from Rangpur city ahead of the pre-declared general strike program of Thursday. I am urging the authorities concerned to release them immediately.

It is the democratic and constitutional rights of the people to declare and observe general strike. The government has no right to create obstruction in this regard. The government has committed crimes by obstructing Jamaat’s peaceful procession and detaining innocent party activists. These continuous arrest incidents have exposed the tyrannical face of the government.

The government has made the country a big prison by relentlessly arresting the opposition activists, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami. They are plotting conspiracy to introduce one party rule once again in the country through their strategies of murder, arrest, remand and brutal oppression. I am calling upon the fellow citizens to initiate mass resistance against such conspiracies of the government.

Finally, I am urging all wings, units and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the assistance of the countrymen in order to observe nationwide dawn to dusk strike on Thursday protesting against the unjust arrest and 10 days of police remand against top Jamaat leaders including Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and simultaneously making a call to offer special prayer seeking the blessings of Almighty Allah for their immediate release on 13th October, Friday.
