Police unreasonably arrested Faridpur and Gazipur district Jamaat leaders; Hamidur Rahman Azad protests

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 1st October, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami Faridpur district Secretary Principal Mohammad Badruddin and Gazipur city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Hossen Ali.

“Police has arrested Jamaat-e-Islami Faridpur district Secretary Principal Mohammad Badruddin and Gazipur city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Hossen Ali on last 29th September without any reason. Even 24 hour after their arrest, they were not produced before the court. In the meantime, police kept them in their custody and tortured them mentally and physically.

The government is arresting the members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami across the country as a part of their conspiracy to destroy the party leaderships. The continuous arrest incidents of the Jamaat members and activists have exposed the fascist face of the government. The incumbent government which has lost all the public support, are desperately trying to stay in power by continuing the arrest drive against the opposition activists. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule of the current authoritarian government.

Finally I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Faridpur district Secretary Principal Mohammad Badruddin immediately.”
