Mia Ghulam Parwar protests Finance Minister’s unlawful comment against Apex Court’s 16th amendment cancellation verdict

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 5th August, 2017 protesting and condemning the unlawful comments of the finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith that he had made while talking to the journalists on 4th August after visiting Sylhet Medical University establishment at Dakhin Surma saying that ‘The 16th amendment will be passed in every occasions whenever it would have been cancelled.’

“While responding to the journalists, Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith said ‘The 16th amendment will be passed in every occasion whenever it would have been cancelled. The parliament provides job to the justices. The justices show their power over the public representatives but we appoint them’. Such unlawful comment from the finance minister contradicts the spirit of decency and amount to contempt of court.

The finance minister has no right to say such words against the verdict of the apex court. His statement sounds like it is contemptuous to the court. His remark also proves that the incumbent government do not believe in the freedom of judiciary. We want to assert that this comment of the finance minister is contradictory to the spirit and conscience of the 16 crore fellow citizens of the country.

The countrymen are eagerly waiting to see the future step of the apex court against finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith.”
