Hundreds arrested from the funeral prayer of Maulana Rafiqul Islam; Mia Ghulam Parwar protests

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 24th July, 2017 protesting the unjustifiable arrest of hundreds of peoples including Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists, relatives and general Muslim devotees along with 10 women from different spots and streets while they were returning after attending the funeral prayer of Shatkhira district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and party’s central Majlish-e-Shura memeber late Maulana Rafiqul Islam.

“Shatkhira district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and party’s central Majlish-e-Shura memeber late Maulana Rafiqul Islam died on 23rd July. Hundreds of peoples irrespective of their political identities attended his funeral this noon. After the congregation, when the people were returning, police unlawfully and unjustifiably arrested hundreds of Muslim devotees. Even the relatives of the deceased and the women were not spared from this brutal arrest drive.

Such an objectionable role from the government clearly contradicts the religious and general human rights of the people. Such an anti-Islamic move is often seen in Tel aviv, the capital of Israel. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the arrest of the Muslim devotees after the rituals like funeral prayer.

This government has no attachment with the people and they will not be able to stay in office forcefully by violating the religious and human rights. I am urging the fellow citizens to form broad base unity against the torture and repression of the government.

I am also calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained Muslim devotees including the women immediately.
