Jamaat-e-Islami urges all to help and assist the landslide victims in Chittagong and other hill tract districts

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer and its Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman have jointly issued the following statement on 14th June, 2017 urging all to take by the side of the victims who have been affected in the disastrous landslide and flash flood in Chittagong, Bandarban and Rangamti districts.

“It is the prime responsibility of the government to assist the victims of the landslides in Chittagong, Bandarban and Rangamti districts. In addition, every capable citizen also should extend their hands of cooperation in this regard.

Torrential rains, flash floods and subsequent landslides have caused the death of at least 140 people including four army men. Scores of people have been injured. Many people are still entrapped under the rubbles. Death toll may raise more. Thousands of houses and establishments have been destroyed. The communications between Chittagong and three hill tracts districts have been disrupted. Water and electricity supply has been suspended as well. The three aforesaid districts are facing humanitarian crisis now.

Assistance and compensation should be sent to their families of the landslide victims. In addition, effective steps should be taken to rescue the entrapped peoples and also for the treatment of the injury victims.

Alongside the government, I am urging all the quarters including the voluntary organizations, affluent peoples, donors and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to help the landslide victims of Chittagong, Bandarban and Rangamti districts.
