Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former Member of Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman said that the nation has rejected the education policy formulated by the former fascist Awami League government. That policy must be replaced with an Islamic education policy, which should then be implemented. The textbooks introduced during the tenure of the fallen government that contained anti-Islamic elements must be completely revised.
He made these remarks on October 27 in the afternoon while exchanging views with the leaders of the Independent Ibtedayee Madrasa Teachers Unity Alliance, who came to meet him. The meeting was presided over by Secretary General of the Bangladesh Ideal Teachers Federation Professor A.B.M. Fazlul Karim.
Among others present were Assistant Secretary of the Bangladesh Ideal Teachers Federation Professor Robiul Islam; coordinators Dr. Abdus Sabur Fakir and Mr. Shamsul Alam; Professor Dr. Shahjahan Madani; and Mr. Sakhawat Hossain.
Professor Mujibur Rahman further said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has always played a leading role in realizing the demands of the teaching community. There are about 12,000 independent Ibtedayee madrasas in the country. I strongly urge the government to accept the legitimate demands of these madrasa teachers and to bring them under the MPO (Monthly Pay Order) scheme without delay.
In his presidential address, Professor A.B.M. Fazlul Karim, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Ideal Teachers Federation, said that teachers of independent Ibtedayee madrasas must be given the right to live a decent life like other teachers. The government had promised in January this year to bring 1,089 independent Ibtedayee madrasas under the MPO scheme, but that promise has not yet been fulfilled.
He added that the government must immediately implement its commitment by enlisting those 1,089 madrasas under the MPO scheme—avoiding all kinds of procrastination, even if that requires allocating special funds. Otherwise, the teaching community will be compelled to launch a vigorous movement.
