Jamaat’s mass rally H held in Rampura

The opposition to the PR system is only to maintain one-party dominance in parliament, alleges Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM. Masum has expressed his firm conviction that if the people vote for Jamaat in the upcoming national election and bring it to power, the party will form a courageous government — one that fears none but Almighty Allah, ensures justice in every sphere of the state, and establishes the rights of all citizens.

He made these remarks today while addressing as the chief guest at a mass rally organized by Rampura Thana Jamaat at the Ekramunnesa High School field in the capital’s Rampura area. The rally was held to press home five-point demands — including holding the national election in February based on the July National Charter, introducing the Proportional Representation (PR) system in both houses of parliament, ensuring a level playing field, and bringing visible justice for the fascist regime’s mass killings and corruption.

The rally was presided over by Ameer of Rampura Thana (North) Fazle Ahmad Fazlu, Special guests included central General Secretary of Bangladesh Sramik Kollan Federation, former Central President of Islami Chhatrashibir, and Jamaat’s nominated candidate for Dhaka-11 parliamentary constituency Advocate Atiqur Rahman ; and Maulana Muhibullah, President of the Federation’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit and election coordinator for Dhaka-11. Local leaders were also present at that time.

Maulana ATM. Masum said that the country had suffered from misrule and bad governance for the past 18 years. Among them, two years were spent under a strange “emergency government” whose main task was to rehabilitate the Awami League. For nearly 16 years after that, the country experienced Awami-Bakshali tyranny. “Even in the age of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), people did not dance on the corpses of their victims. But on October 28, 2006, Awami fascists unleashed such a demonic carnage on the streets,” he said.

He further said that throughout Awami League’s entire rule, the country was plunged into chaos — murder, terrorism, abduction, enforced disappearances, secret killings, and the establishment of torture centers like Aynaghar created a horrific situation. Democracy and democratic values were destroyed, and Islam and Islamic ideals were made enemies. “But they could not save themselves; instead, their disgraceful downfall came through the united revolution of students and the masses,” he added.

Maulana Masum continued, “The fall of Awami fascism proves that while Allah may grant respite, He never abandons justice. As the Holy Qur’an declares — Allah’s grasp is the most severe. In that continuity, on August 5 last year, we achieved independence for the second time. Two thousand people embraced martyrdom in that struggle, including 60 children, and 30,000 were injured. As a result of these sacrifices, the first phase has been completed through the signing of the July Charter. Yet many steps remain. Therefore, a constitutional order must immediately be issued to give the July Charter a legal foundation, and a referendum must be held by November. Without a referendum, the people will not accept any election.”

He called upon everyone to remain united on the streets to realize these national demands.

Highlighting Jamaat’s proposal for proportional representation, he said, “We have proposed the introduction of the PR system in both houses of parliament to ensure representation of all parties, big and small. Most people in the country support this system. Yet a particular party claims not to ‘understand’ PR — but by signing the July Charter and accepting PR in the upper house, they have already proven that they do. The truth is, they oppose the fair PR system only to maintain their one-party dominance in the national parliament.”

Referring to the necessity of a level playing field in the upcoming election, Maulana Masum said, “The election field must be equal for all. Before anything else, the July Charter must be given legal recognition. Without justice for the Awami League’s genocide and corruption, the election cannot be free or fair.”

He also urged everyone to remain alert against conspiracies targeting the country and national identity.

In his special address, Advocate Atiqur Rahman said, “Those who were in power in the past did not work to change the fate of the people; they only changed their own. If the people vote Jamaat into power in the coming election, the face of the country will be transformed within five years — corruption will be eradicated.”

He called upon everyone to remain united to ensure the victory of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming election to save the country.
