Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the coordinator of Rangpur-Dinajpur region, Maulana Abdul Halim said that if elections are held under the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the country, there is no possibility of anyone becoming fascist. Under this system, a quality parliament will be formed. Both small and large parties can contribute to law-making and nation-building process. Therefore, in line with the popular expectation and the consensus of many political parties in the concerned commission, the government should hold the election under the PR system.
On 6 September (Saturday) morning, he made these remarks while addressing as chief guest at a Jamaat-e-Islami Nilphamari Sadar constituency's organizational gathering. The program was Presided over by the coordinator of Nilphamari-2 constituency and Assistant District Secretary Professor Anwarul Islam.
Regarding the election, he said to the government, “Jamaat-e-Islami is fully prepared for elections not in February of next year, but right now. However, before the election, the July National Declaration must be given a legal basis, and in light of that, the national election must be held in a free, fair, and acceptable manner. Alongside this, a level playing field must be ensured so that voters can exercise their right to vote spontaneously and without hindrance.”
Addressing party leaders and activists, he said, “All of us must play an active role in election activities. We must reach every voter and seek their votes. They need to be convinced that if honest, competent, and patriotic candidates like those of Jamaat-e-Islami are elected, they will play a strong role in building a corruption-free Bangladesh. At the same time, through widespread publicity, we must make the ‘Scales’ symbol more familiar to voters.”
Expressing optimism, he said, “If we can play a sincere role in the election, then with Allah’s mercy and the people’s support, Jamaat-e-Islami candidates will win in all four constituencies of Nilphamari, Insha’Allah.”
Special guests at the organizational gathering included Abdur Rashid, member of the Rangpur-Dinajpur regional team and former Ameer of Nilphamari district, and Principal Maulana Abdus Sattar, Ameer of Nilphamari district and Jamaat-nominated candidate for Nilphamari-1 constituency.
