Jamaat Ameer visits the house of Anjum, victim of murder in Kulaura

The people will not tolerate any attempt to save the murderer of the innocent girl, asserts Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, said, “I heard the heartbreaking news of Nafiza Jannat Anjum’s murder in my own upazila while I was in Dhaka. I was deeply saddened and shocked by the news. Today, I have come to the girl’s house for two reasons: firstly, to visit her grave, and secondly, to meet her family. I spoke with her father, and his words deeply struck my conscience. This brutal murder proves the kind of society we are living in! The oppression inflicted on her family through the killing of this innocent girl is absolutely unacceptable.”

In the courtyard of the house, amidst the presence of hundreds of locals, Jamaat Ameer said, “We demand the execution of Anjum’s killer!” Comforting the protesting crowd, he said, “We want justice for this brutal murder. We have already observed that an influential group is trying to influence the case in favor of the oppressor. If that is the case, I promise you, together with the people, we will build a strong resistance against the oppressors, Insha Allah.” He further added, “I have already spoken with the local administration and clearly told them that any attempt to protect the murderer or manipulate the process will not be tolerated.”

Addressing the administration, he said, “The police must stand on the side of justice. The investigation officer (IO) appointed for the case must carry out the inquiry with honesty and transparency. Supporting this oppressed family will bring good both in this world and the Hereafter.”

At that time, Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, District Ameer Engineer Md. Shahed Ali, Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdur Rahman, District Secretary Md. Yamir Ali, Islami Chhatrashibir District President Nizam Uddin, Kulaura Upazila Secretary Belal Ahmed Chowdhury, Assistant Secretaries Saiful Islam Khan and Alauddin, and Chhatrashibir Upazila President Atikur Rahman Tarek accompanied the Jamaat Ameer. Several others also addressed the gathering of protestors in the house courtyard, including Principal of Gangul Madrasa Maulana Yusuf Ali, Jamaat’s former Upazila Ameer Abdul Hamid Khan, Upazila Shura Member Rajanur Rahim Iftekhar, Moulvibazar District Executive Council Member Aziz Ahmad Kibria, and Brahman Bazar Union President Hasan Ali.

As the Jamaat Ameer took leave from the grieving family, many journalists from electronic and print media were present. One journalist asked him about current political issues, to which he replied, “I am mentally devastated. If this girl had been my own daughter, how would I have felt? Please, brothers, I ask you to excuse me today. I am sorry, but I will not be answering any political questions today.”

Later, the Ameer of Jamaat, along with those present, visited the green, serene graveyard situated to the west of the Daudpur Jame Mosque near Anjum’s house. There, he offered prayers at the grave and led a supplication for the deceased. He then visited the family, offering words of comfort to her father Khalik Mia, her younger brother, and little sister. From behind a curtain, Anjum’s mother cried out in anguish, her voice choked with tears, demanding justice for the murder of her beloved daughter and urging everyone to pray for her. The Jamaat Ameer later led a heartfelt prayer for the entire family.
