Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated, "If expatriates invest in businesses in Bangladesh, we will stand by them. We will make every effort to resolve any challenges they face."
He made these comments as the chief guest at an exchange meeting held at the British-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) office in London on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
The event, chaired by the President of BBCCI, Rafique Haider, and hosted by the BBCCI’s Director General, Solicitor Dewan Mahdi. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further elaborated his vision for Bangladesh. He expressed his desire to build a vibrant, youth-driven Bangladesh, where young people would selflessly dedicate themselves to the nation's development.
In response to a question in regards to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami envisions about Bangladesh, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman asserted, "Bangladesh will neither be like Pakistan nor like Afghanistan. Bangladesh will remain as Bangladesh, in its own unique way."
Jamaat Ameer also emphasized the importance of including women in the nation's development process, stating, "Nothing will be achieved in Bangladesh without keeping women out of the process. Women will work with dignity and full security. Regarding the issue of minorities, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "We will not distinguish between minorities and majorities in the country. We are all Bangladeshis. Together, we want to build a united Bangladesh, where followers of every religion can practice their faith freely and without fear." He urged all stakeholders to adopt the principle of "Right man in the right place" in the process of nation-building.
The event, which began with a Quranic recitation by Maulana Sirajul Islam, was attended by several prominent figures, including former BBCCI President Shahgir Bakht Farooq, former President Dr. Wali Taser Uddin, founder President of the London-Bangla Press Club Mahib Chowdhury, Chairperson of the Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council Barrister Ataur Rahman, Spokesperson for Jamaat-e-Islami Europe Barrister Abu Bakar Mollah, former Secretary of Sylhet City Jamaat Sirajul Islam Shaheen, BBCCI Vice President Abul Hayat Nuruzzaman, Finance Director Helal Khan, President of BBCCI’s London Region Monir Ahmed, Membership Director Abdul Munim, former Mayor and Councilor Jahangir Hossain, Editor of The Sunrise Today Enam Chowdhury, and businessman Abdul Kadir.
