A meeting of the central executive committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with party’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in the chair. The meeting discussed about the ongoing adverse weather including heatwaves and its subsequent mass sufferings.

“Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been observing with deep concern that public lives are suffering immensely due to ongoing heatwaves and severe hot. Bangladesh sees record days of heatwaves in 76 years because of unplanned urbanization and deforestation. Even the birds, animals and human being are suffering extremely due to in want of rain. Drought is being observed in many places. In addition, load shedding has made the lives of the people more terrible. Under the circumstances, Jamaat-e-Islami urged the religious scholars to perform Istisqa prayer along with the people.

But when the people gathered to perform the prayer, at that time, the law enforcers obstructed them and arrested many of them. Such steps of the government are inhuman, unexpected and unprecedented. The government does not want to keep people in peace and comfort. Their aggressive roles against the people exposes their anti-Islam stance. Central executive committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami condemns all these incidents.

Central executive committee further observes that the government has failed to ensure ecological balance and forestation procedures. Although, huge amount of money is allocated for forestation but the plans are not implemented. On the contrary, trees and forests are being destroyed recklessly. Buildings are also being built without following the building codes and other regulations.

According to the experts, global warming and climate change are responsible for the high temperature. Besides, destruction of water bodies, unplanned urbanization, deforestation, cutting trees and hills and grabbling rivers and riverside areas are the main cause behind such adverse weather. The people have to be conscious to get rid of this situation. Environmental balance must be ensured. Waterbodies to be recovered. Planned urbanization and forestation must be prioritized.

Central executive committee seeking mercy and blessings from Almighty Allah to get rid of ongoing heatwaves and other natural calamities. In addition, the committee is calling upon the government to take effective steps to tackle human-made crisis, and also to facilitate tree plantation, preservation of environment and planned urbanization.”
