Veteran Jamaat leader Advocate Abdul Latif laid to eternal rest; thousands of people attended his funeral

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's former central working committee member, former Nilphamari district Ameer and former president of Nilphamari district bar Advocate Abdul Latif laid to eternal rest amid loves and tears of hundreds of thousands of people.

His Namaj-e-Janaja was held at 3 in the afternoon on Wednesday in Nilphamari Boro Math. His son Al Faruq Al Latif led the Janaja prayer. Later, he was buried at district's central graveyard near the district Judge Court. Earlier, Advocate Abdul Latif died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment in Dhaka's Ibn Sina Hospital. He was 92.

Prior to the Janaja, Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim addressed the gatherings. In his speech, Maulana Abdul Halim said, Advocate Abdul Latif was a great mentor. His students are discharging various significant duties at national level. His long organizational life was well-planmed and it was full of clarity, dedication and sacrifice. He was a teacher, a lawyer, organizer, social worker and a respected political leader. He was respected and recognised by all quarters, even by his political and ideological opponents. He was the Jamaat's nominee in Nilphamari-2 Sadar constituency for several times and gained loves of people of all walks. He was very sincere to Islamic movement. He started from the grassroots and became the member of party's central working committee. He will be remembered for his outstanding roles and contributions in expanding the activities of Islamic movement in greater Nilphamari and Rangpur region. Maulana Abdul Halim also conveyed the Salam and greetings of Jamaat's Acting Ameer to the gatherings.

Among others, Jamaat's central working committee member Principal Maulana Momtaz Uddin, Nilphamari district Ameer Abdur Rashid, Dinajpur South organizational Ameer Anwarul Islam, Dinajpur north organizational district Ameer Principal Anisur Rahman, Thakurgaon district Ameer Maulana Abdul Hakim, Rangpur city Ameer A T M Azam Khan and Gaibandha district Ameer Abdul Karim Sarkar, Rangpur district Ameer Professor Golam Robbani, Panchagarh district Ameer Professor Iqbal Hossain, Lalmonirhat district Ameer Ataur Rahman anf other local leaders addressed on the occasion.
