Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Mia Golam Porwar has issued a statement on 12th December expressing deep concern and outrage over the terrorist attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, the independent candidate of Dhaka- 8 constituency and the convener of Inqilab Mancha.
In the issued statement, he said, “I express deep concern and outrage over the terrorist attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, the independent candidate of Dhaka- 8 constituency and the convener of Inqilab Mancha. The incident of openly shooting at one of the prominent July fighters and an MP candidate the very next day after the election schedule was announced has gravely called into question the security situation during the election period. This clearly appears to be a deliberate attempt to create fear.”
He further said, “I strongly urge the law enforcement agencies to immediately identify and arrest the attackers, urgently review the CCTV footage from the scene, and ensure effective security measures for all candidates of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, party activists, and general citizens. I call upon the government to thoroughly investigate whether this attack is part of any well-planned conspiracy by the fallen fascist forces to sabotage the election.”
He said, “On 13 November, Osman Hadi mentioned in a social media post that he had received death threats through calls and texts from 30 foreign numbers, and threats of rape were issued against his mother, sister, and wife. It is evident to the nation that the administration has failed to ensure his security, which amounts to severe negligence in safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens. We condemn this evasion and negligence of responsibility by the administration.”
Mia Golam Porwar said, “Such barbaric attacks destabilize the country’s peaceful political environment and democratic process. We hope that the government and the administration will give the highest priority to this incident, promptly arrest the perpetrators, bring them under the rule of law, and ensure exemplary punishment. Additionally, I wish Sharif Osman Hadi a quick recovery and express my sympathy to his family and colleagues.”
