-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 8th April, 2024 recalling the contribution and sacrifice of noted journalist, politician, intellectual, author, researcher and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s former Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.

“Shaheed Kamaruzzaman was the senior Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat—e-Islami and former central president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir. Along with performing the organizational duties of Jamaat-e-Islami, he wrote regularly in Daily Sangram and Weekly Sonar Bangla and always raised his voice for truth and justice. He had played significant role as an author, researcher, and journalist. He authored several books. His books and write ups will inspire the activists of the Islamic movement and the people for many days. He transformed Chhatrashibir as a massive student movement and conveyed the message of this organization at door to door nationwide.

As a member of the liaison committee, he played an important role in the democratic movement during the regime of General Ershad and Sheikh Hasina. The nation will remember him for his outstanding role in upholding democracy, rule of law, justice and human rights. He had a sound relationship with the diplomats who had come in different period in Bangladesh.

In connection with a politically motivated concocted case, the government executed Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was executed on 10.30 at night of 11 April, 2015. He is not amongst us. But he will live for many days through his writings. I am remembering all his noble contributions. May Allah accept him as a martyr. I am urging my fellow countrymen to get involved with his movement for establishing a welfare state based on Islamic ideology.
