Jamaat Ameer urges to observe Independence Day on 26th March

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 24th March, 2024 urging to observe the Independence and National Day on next 26th March, 2024.

On 26th March of 1971, the valiant freedom fighters and the general people formed all-out resistance against the then Pakistani rulers in order to ensure rule of law, justice, freedom of speech, and fundamental rights. They took part in the liberation war to build a country free from poverty, starvation, and unemployment. Bangladeshi finally achieved independence in exchange for many lives and sacrifices. But since then, 51 years have passed, still many dreams and objectives are not met yet.

The countrymen are going to observe Independence Day in such a period when there is no rule of law and justice, democracy, rule of law, voting rights and other fundamental rights. The nation has turned into a police state. The people with dissident views are being arrested and harassed frequently. People are suffering immensely due to severe price hikes of all essential commodities. The incumbent government has captured the office without people’s votes and justified mandate and as such, they are running the nation recklessly and irresponsibly. As a result, the nation is moving towards severe uncertainty.

During the reign of the incumbent dummy government, more than 82% people cannot eat properly even for once in a day. 26% families are suffering from the curse of debt. The religious people cannot consume iftar and suhur properly as well. City dwellers are crying for water. But the government is not worried about the mass sufferings. As they are not elected by the people so they do not feel any responsibility towards the people.

The government has kept the people confined. Only way to rescue the people is to launch a massive movement based on the participation of all quarters and subsequently to establish a pro-people government. I am calling upon the countrymen to initiate movement against this fascist and tyrant government.

We are recalling the sacrifice of our freedom fighters and the courageous people as the country’s independence has been achieved based on these sacrifices. Bangladesh is now regarded as an independent and sovereign country only for their dedication. I would like to greet the countrymen on the occasion of the Independence Day. I am urging all the wings and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami and my fellow countrymen to observe the Independence Day with due solemnity. In addition, I am seeking the welfare of the people in this crucial period. May Allah save and protect the independence and sovereignty of our beloved country.
