Acting Ameer appreciates the countrymen for boycotting election; urges to hold credible election again under caretaker government

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7th January, 2024 thanking and appreciating the countrymen for boycotting today’s election.

Today, on 7th January, the countrymen and the people of the world have witnessed another voter less dummy election. This day will be marked as a black day in the history of Bangladesh. Almost all political parties, civil societies, intellectuals and people of different walks and professions have been conducting movement for holding a free, fair, credible and inclusive election under a caretaker government. Democratic world and the friendly nations also expected a fair and participatory election in Bangladesh. But ignoring their views and suggestions, the government arranged this farcical election on 7th January.

To make this farcical election acceptable, the government allowed its partymen to contest in this election as independent, rebel, and dummy candidates in order to bring more voters in the polling centers. Awami League cadres and the administrations also threatened the voters to cast their votes. Even, some of these cadres threatened to murder voters if they do not cast their votes for Awami League. But their all attempts turned into futile as the people did not go to the polling centers. The voters had no interest about this election since the onset. As a result, the presence of the voters was significantly low. Almost hundred percent people have boycotted this dummy election. So, ultimately the people won and the undemocratic and fascist government is defeated morally.

Acting Ameer said, by boycotting the election the people proved that this election has no nexus with the people of Bangladesh. Defying all threats, and warning, the people remained refrained from casting votes and thus they reiterated their support for the caretaker government system. The people made it clear that they are not inclined to take part in any election without caretaker government. I am congratulating and appreciating the people of Bangladesh as they boycotted this farcical election with courage and boldness. They also expressed their determination to make the ongoing movement for restoring democracy successful. Besides, I am urging the government to cancel this farcical election and immediately to hold a free, fair and credible election under the caretaker government. We hope that the government will respect public desire and will fulfil it properly.”
