Jamaat urges to observe all-out strike on 7th January, on the day of farcical election

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 6th January, 2023 urging to observe all-out nationwide strike on 7th January, on the day of farcical election, which had been declared by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the farcical dummy candidate’s election.

The government has undertaken all measures to detach Bangladesh from the democratic world by holding a farcical election. Actually, this election is arranged to facilitate the continuation of government’s looting, money laundering and embezzlement. The ruling party allowed own party men as dummy candidates to contest in order to make the election apparently inclusive. It is nothing but a deceptive arrangement. Nationwide strike called by Jamaat-e-Islami and other opposition parties have become successful today. To foil the program, in last 48 hours, the government has arrested 29 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir. The people, however continued their movement for securing voting rights and democracy. As a part of the movement, I am urging the countrymen to observe Jamaat’s pre-declared nationwide strike on 7th January, Sunday.”
