People are suffering extremely due to misrule of the government

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 3rd January, 2024 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of Sirajganj municipality’s Ramgoti area’s resident and Jamaat activist Monir Ahmad and his wife Lucky Khatun.

“Sirajganj municipality’s Ramgoti area’s resident and Jamaat activist Monir Ahmad and his wife Lucky Khatun have been arrested unjustifiably. There was no arrest of warrant against them. Police have arrested this couple of 68 years without any reason. Government’s such arrest initiative is unexpected and unwanted. We are condemning the incident vehemently. Women and kids are not spared from the arrest drives. The citizens of the country became helpless because of the continuous arrest drives and repression of the government. A reign of terror has been established throughout the country by conducting massive arrest drives. In last 24 hours, 10 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists have been arrested from various places of the country. I am condemning their unlawful arrest drives and ongoing oppression of the government.

People are suffering extremely due to misrule of the government. Public lives and properties are not secured anymore. People are not allowed to express themselves. National economy is at the verge of collapse due to looting and corruption of the government. I am urging the countrymen to raise their voices against the torture and repression of the government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop vengeance and harassment and to release all detained political leaders and activists including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman immediately.
