Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 29th December, 2023 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of Jamaat leaders and activists from various places of the country.

“The government is continuously arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir. The fascist government is torturing and persecuting the opposition activists severely in last 15 years. The misrule, corruption and repression of the government has put the nation into an anarchic situation. Hundreds of thousands of opposition party activists cannot stay in home as the law enforcers are carrying raids to arrest them in connection with politically motivated false cases. In case the law enforcers fail to arrest the targeted person, they are detaining other members of the family. Women and kids are also being threatened. Their precious furniture and household accessories are being vandalized. The whole nation has transformed into a giant prison. In last couple of days, the law enforcement agency members have arrested 53 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists including Bogra east organizational district’s working committee member Qari Abdul Mazid, Dhaka city’s Mirpur west thana secretary Jashim Uddin and Uttara west Sramik Kollan Federation’s zone in charge Hossain Ahmed. I am condemning ongoing arrest drives and torture of the government.

He said, the government has hijacked the voting rights and other basic civic rights. People are not allowed to speak out. A reign of terror has been established nationwide. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the oppression and crackdown of the government.

Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to stop political harassment and to release all detained political detainees including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other central leaders immediately.”
