Police’s arrest drives against Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists continue; Acting Secretary General condemns

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 23rd December protesting and condemning the arrests of Jamaat leaders and activists nationwide including Rajshahi city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Principal Mahbubul Ahsan Bulbul.

The government is continuously arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir. The oppressor regime has been repressing the opposition men for last 15 years. The torture, crackdown and suppression of the government have taken the nation toward an anarchic situation. Hundreds of thousands of opposition activists cannot stay in their homes as false cases have been filed against them. The law enforcers are detaining other members of the families if they fail to arrest the targeted one. Even women and kids are being threatened. In last 24 hours, the law enforcers have arrested 15 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists including Rajshahi city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Principal Mahbubul Ahsan Bulbul and Dhaka north city’s Rampura north thana Ameer Fazle Ahmed Fazlu. I am condemning such repression of the government.

The government has seized the voting rights of the people away. Public lives and properties are not secured. People are not allowed to speak out. A reign of terror has been established nationwide. No nation can function in such a way. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the torture and repression of the government.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop political vengeance and to release all the detained political detainees including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Rajshahi city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Principal Mahbubul Ahsan Bulbul immediately.
