Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 21st December, 2023 protesting and condemning the arrests of Jamaat leaders and activists from various places of the country including Chandpur district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Billal Hossain Miazi.

The government is continuously arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir. Police this noon, unjustifiably arrested Rajshahi city Jamaat’s former Ameer late Ataur Rahman’s youngest son Enan Mustahid Sakib and Rajshahi city Jamaat’s secretary Emaj Uddin Mondol’s son Abdullah Sadiq Abir. It should be mentioned here that the mother of Enan Mustahid Sakib and the maternal grandmother of Abdullah Sadiq Abir died on last 15th December. The family still is passing a mournful situation and Enan Mustahid Sakib is sick as well. Under such circumstances, the incidents of their arrests are really tragic, brutal and inhuman. We are condemning such inhuman acts of the police forces.

In last 15 years, the tyrant government murdered thousands of leaders and activists of the opposition parties. They have abducted and subsequently murdered many patriots military officer, lawyers, and student leaders. They have pushed the nation into an anarchic situation by continuing their misrule, corruption and repression. They are conducting arrest drives against the opposition leaders. If they fail to detain the targeted persons, they are arresting other members of the families. Even the women and the kids are not spared from their oppression. The authority has turned the entire nation into a big prison. In last two days, the government has arrested 25 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists including Chandpur district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Billal Hossain Miazi. We are condemning such repression and arrest drives of the government.

I am urging the authorities to stop torture, oppression and arrest drives and to release all detained leaders and activists including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Chandpur district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Billal Hossain Miazi immediately.
