Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 20th December, 2023 declaring following programs demanding resignation of the government and also for holding election under a neutral caretaker government.

Awami League led grand alliance government has come to power through a farcical election. The countrymen did not cast their votes for Awami League. The incumbent illegitimate government has completed all measures to hold another farcical election like 2014 and 2018 in order to stay in power forcefully. They have used the subservient election commission to declare schedule accordingly. The countrymen vehemently rejected the election schedule already.

The people have come into a consensus to reject the farcical and pre-staged election. The countrymen also showed their no confidence upon this government by observing opposition declared strike and blockade sincerely. We are declaring the following programs demanding immediate stepdown of the government and also for holding a free, fair and credible election under a neutral caretaker government:

1. Mass contact and leaflet distribution from 21st to 23rd December
2. Nationwide dawn to dusk blockade on 24th December
We are also making the following calls to the countrymen in order to boycott the farcical election:
• Make all-out resistance from individual position against the farcical election
• Stay away from casting votes ignoring all pressure, threats, intimidation and encourage others to remain refrained from casting votes
• Be refrained from assisting the government in casting votes
• Disconnect all types of relationship with the tyrant, and oppressor government
