The whole nation is united to get rid of Awami League’s misrule

-Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 16th December, 2023 declaring dawn to dusk strike on 18th December, Monday protesting police’s attacks nationwide, arrest drives, oppression and torture and the conspiracy for holding one-party election.

On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am declaring nationwide dawn to dusk strike on 18th December, Monday protesting government’s conspiracy to hold one party election, imposition ban on meeting and rallies, protesting the perverse judgement in Jamaat’s registration case, farce in the name of trial in the lower court, protesting the schedule of one-party election, demanding resignation of the government, restoration of election-time caretaker government, demanding immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and all other political detainees, withdrawal of false cases and for bringing the prices of the essentials within people’s capacity. I am urging Jamaat leaders and activists and the fellow countrymen to make the declared program successful.

In another statement, Maulana ATM Masum said, the people are extremely disturbed by the misrule of the government. The entire nation is united to free the nation from this misrule. The government has destroyed the democracy, snatched the voting rights away, and destroyed the economy. Public lives and properties are not secured. People are not allowed to speak up. Humanity is suppressed. Under the circumstances, Jamaat and other opposition parties are doing movement to preserve democracy and voting rights. The tyrant regime has become afraid of this movement. Home Minister warned to resist the peaceful meeting, procession and rallies which is totally undemocratic. By making such declaration, he took stance against the people.

This morning, police, Jubo Leage and Chhatra League attacked on a procession of Chhatrashibir in Mirpur of the capital which has been brought out marking the Victory Day. Police also arrested 11 men from the spot. By carrying out such attack, police have exposed their irresponsibility and foiled the dignities of the Victory Day. Police’s such actions are unexpected. We condemn such step of the law enforcers. In last 4 days, police have arrested 57 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders from various places of the country. I am condemning crackdown and repression of the government and demanding immediate release of all political detainees.
