Acting Secretary General calls to observe nationwide; condemns ongoing arrest drives

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 12th December, 2023 protesting police’s tortures, repression and harassment and simultaneously urging to make ongoing blockade program successful.

“Even in the month of International Human Rights Day, the oppressor regime is continuing its arrest drives, torture, repression and harassment. Public lives and properties are not secured now. There is no freedom of speech, freedom of expression, justice and good governance in the country. Human rights are totally subdued now due to misrule of the government. The government has turned the nation into a big prison. The countrymen are passing days amid severe fear and anxiety.

In last 24 hours, 29 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists including Rajshahi city media and publicity secretary Professor AKM Sarwar Jahan have been arrested. It is the constitutional rights of the citizens to hold meeting, processions and rallies. But the government has obstructed all democratic programs of Jamaat-e-Islami including the human chain. I am condemning all inhuman activities and oppressions of the government and demanding immediate release of all political detainees including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. Besides, I am urging the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the fellow countrymen to make the blockade and other declared programs successful.”
