Acting Seceretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 29th October 2023 thanking the people of all walks for responding to the call of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and other opposition parties by observing the dawn to dusk strike nationwide today on 29th October.

“Ignoring the threats, intimidation, repression and torture of the government, the countrymen have made today’s nationwide dawn to dusk strike successful and as such, on behalf Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP and other opposition parties I would like to thank our fellow countrymen sincerely.

By observing today’s strike, the countrymen have rejected the incumbent authoritarian government. The countrymen will not let the government to hold any farcical and one-sided election this time. The ongoing movement can never be subdued by arresting the Jamaat and BNP leaders and activists. The countrymen have expressed their no confidence upon the government by making today’s strike successful.

I am urging the present authoritarian government to respect the public demand, to resign immediately and to handover power to the caretaker government in order to hold a free, fair, credible and participatory election. Otherwise, the government has to take the responsibility for the any untoward consequence.”
