Acting Secretary General calls to observe nationwide dawn to dusk strike on Sunday

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 28th October 2023 declaring nationwide dawn to dusk strike on 29th October Sunday.

Police have arrested around 300 leaders and activists from various of the country to foil the pre-declared grand rally of Jamaat-e-Islami at Shapla Chattar of the caital. It is the constitutionally recognized right of all political parties to hold processions and rallies. Many Jamaat activists have been arrested when they arrived in the capital from different parts of the country through buses, launches and trains. Such actions of the government are totally unlawful, undemocratic and unwanted. I am vehemently condemning such unlawful arrest drives of the oppressor government.

I am declaring nationwide dawn to dusk strike on 29th October Sunday demanding immediate resignation of the government, and protesting police’s attack on the rally of BNP, the detention of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other activists and police’s arrests of grand rally bound activists. I am seeking the support of the countrymen and the party’s leaders and activists to make the strike program successful.

It should be added that, hospital, ambulance, fire services, media related transports and pharmacy will remain out of the strike.
